What I built

I built a full-size arcade unit around a Raspberry Pi running RetroPie. The project combined Linux administration, controller mapping, display setup, audio, storage and a physical cabinet into a system that could be used like a dedicated arcade machine.

What the project involved

  • Installing and maintaining the Raspberry Pi operating environment
  • Configuring RetroPie and emulator front ends
  • Mapping arcade buttons and joysticks reliably
  • Testing display modes, audio and controller behaviour
  • Organising game libraries without publishing copyrighted files
  • Troubleshooting power, storage and input problems

Why it matters

The build is a practical example of joining software and hardware together. It required methodical testing across USB input, Linux configuration, display output and the physical controls rather than treating the Pi as a simple plug-and-play device.

Responsible presentation

The portfolio documents the cabinet and the technical work behind it. It does not distribute game images, firmware or other copyrighted material.

How to deploy or reproduce it

Install RetroPie on a supported Raspberry Pi image or compatible Linux system, add legally owned game files, configure controllers and test audio, display and shutdown behaviour.

Mount the hardware securely in the cabinet, provide ventilation and use a safe power switch rather than cutting power during writes.
