Hands-on depth
Comfort around real hardware, racks, endpoints, Linux hosts, firewalls, VMs, containers and self-hosted applications.
Data-centre operations, managed IT, refurbishment and a substantial self-hosted environment.

Refurbished Windows PCs, performed secure data erasure and reimaging, and ran systems through an Ubuntu-based reimaging and integrity-checking workflow (Aicon). Tracked stock and lots, prepared listings, supported customers and handled dispatch preparation.

Worked 12-hour night shifts in a controlled operational environment while completing the organisation’s vetting process.

Monitoring, remote hands and live data-centre support: patching and structured cabling, UPS checks, reception duties, and hands-on work around Cisco routing, Docker hosts, DDoS-mitigation awareness and Cacti monitoring for environmental and infrastructure graphing on production infrastructure.
Acted as a co-carer for a parent with dementia and Parkinson’s while continuing to develop infrastructure skills through the 1337 Systems lab.

Customer-facing IT support and consulting in a managed-services setting, billed against client work. Connected to client Zabbix servers and deployed Zabbix agents onto their machines so infrastructure could be monitored centrally, including agent rollout for the Hippodrome Casino. During COVID, helped a foreign-exchange client (Worldwide Currencies) onto VPN-based remote monitoring, logged their infrastructure, identified upgrade requirements and presented the findings in a client meeting. Also worked with SentinelOne, Rapid7, Fortinet products, JumpCloud, LDAP/RADIUS authentication, Active Directory and Microsoft 365.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Information Technology, covering practical systems, support and infrastructure foundations.
Comfort around real hardware, racks, endpoints, Linux hosts, firewalls, VMs, containers and self-hosted applications.
Logs, routes, firewall states, filesystem health and service dependencies are checked systematically.
The lab is continuously upgraded, broken, repaired and documented—keeping knowledge current and practical.

From the ITHQ managed-services role, data-centre work and refurbishment operations: Windows and Microsoft 365 administration, Zabbix monitoring, endpoint security, container tooling, Cisco networking, FortiGate firewalling, JumpCloud authentication systems and Cacti data-centre monitoring. I also run Windows Server in my own lab to keep Active Directory skills current.
Used Fortinet FortiGate firewall technology while working with ITHQ, including exposure to secure network access, firewall management, VPN-style connectivity, and protecting business networks.
Used JumpCloud at ITHQ for cloud identity and authentication, including user authentication for Wi-Fi access and related LDAP/RADIUS workflows across company systems.
Used Cacti at Custodian Data Centres to monitor unit temperatures, power/electricity draw, server behaviour and cooling-system data through operational graphs.
I write tooling and small applications across several languages, build web interfaces with HTML and CSS, and use Electron for cross-platform desktop applications. Docker Compose and YAML are included because they are a regular part of how I define and operate self-hosted services.
