What Open WebUI is

Open WebUI is a self-hosted web interface for interacting with large language models (LLMs). It provides a ChatGPT-like experience running entirely on your own hardware — no API keys, no cloud dependency, no data leaving your network. It integrates with Ollama for local model inference, supporting models like Llama, Mistral, Gemma and others.

It features conversation history, multiple model selection, document upload for RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), and a clean, responsive interface that works on desktop and mobile.

Why I run it

I run Open WebUI because I want to experiment with AI models without sending every prompt to a cloud provider. Running models locally means conversations stay private, there are no usage limits, and I can test different models for different tasks. I have been running self-hosted AI since 2023 — well before it became mainstream.

What this gives you

A private, unlimited AI chat interface running on your own hardware — no subscriptions, no data collection, no usage limits, and complete control over which models you run and what data they see.
