What Microsoft 365 is

Microsoft 365 is the cloud-based productivity and collaboration platform that includes Exchange Online (email), OneDrive (file storage), SharePoint (collaboration), Teams (communication), and the Office application suite. For IT administrators, the M365 admin centre provides user provisioning, licence management, security configuration and compliance tools.

Most organisations of any size use Microsoft 365 for email and productivity. Understanding how to administer it — creating users, managing licences, configuring security policies, troubleshooting email delivery and supporting end users — is a core skill for any IT support or infrastructure role.

How I have used it

I worked with Microsoft 365 administration during my role at ITHQ Ltd, where it was part of the managed-services offering for client organisations. This included user provisioning, licence management, email configuration, OneDrive setup and supporting end users with productivity application issues.

Why this matters

Microsoft 365 is the most widely deployed business productivity platform. Having commercial experience administering it — not just using Word and Excel, but managing users, licences, email and security from the admin side — is directly relevant to IT support, helpdesk and infrastructure roles across virtually every industry.

How to deploy or reproduce it

Use a dedicated test tenant or Microsoft developer environment, create non-production users and groups, then practise Exchange, Teams, SharePoint and identity administration with least-privilege roles.

Do not reuse client data or production credentials in screenshots or public documentation.
